From "One Man Band" to Multi-Van, Mulit-City Operation
Steve & Deborah
My name is Steve Harvey, my wife Deborah and I have owned our Rotorua Franchise since February 1988. I had been an electrician previously, with an ambition to own my own business. Deborah had been an office administrator, with experience in wages, debtors & creditors. Working as an electrician I was aware of the pitfalls of small business, and knew how difficult it was to make a go of it. We became aware of Chem-Dry through family, and were able to observe the rapid development of this new franchise network, something (franchising) I had never considered before.
When we looked at the benefits of Franchise support, relatively low risk clientele, and an excellent product, it seemed that we should take the plunge, run it for 5 years, then flick it off. Well 20 years later we are still going. We have re-invented ourselves a few times along the way to keep the challenge happening, to be honest it is always a challenge when you run a small business, but having the Master Franchise added to the mix gave us the edge to provide the levels of professionalism, and depth of expertise needed to remain successful.
We have recently purchased a neighbouring franchise, and re-invented ourselves again to a new business level, allowing me to step back from the daily management role. Thus over the years we have moved from a "one man band" to having several vans on the road, and a central office premises. We are thankful for our successes, and know that nothing would have been achieved without the support available to us and hard (and smart) work.
